Romania's capital, is considered one of the top 50 safest cities in the world.
Romania might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of safety, but you might be surprised. In fact, Bucharest, Romania's capital, is considered one of the top 100 safest cities in the world according to a Numbeo ranking this year.
Based on various factors, cities receive a score ranging from 0 to 100. The significance of the Numbeo report is heightened by the fact that just over half of the world's population now resides in urban areas.
Cluj-Napoca achieved a score of 77.7 out of 100, ranking 23rd globally. It is considered a safer city than Dutch cities such as Eindhoven (26th) and Groningen (25th), as well as the Icelandic capital, Reykjavik (31st). Other Romanian cities in the top 100 include Timisoara (30th), Brasov (54th), Bucharest (67th).
In terms of safety, the capital of Romania, Bucharest, surpasses several other significant European capitals, including Lisbon (75th), Madrid (76th), Amsterdam (82nd), Oslo (108th), and Budapest (120th).
The ranking indicates that people in Bucharest experience a very high degree of safety when walking alone during the day, scoring 87.9 out of 100. They also enjoy a high degree of safety at night. Crime levels, including home invasions, muggings, car thefts, assaults, and discriminatory attacks based on skin color, ethnic origin, or gender, as well as drug dealing and armed robberies, are all either low or very low.
